Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar | great game |
This is one of my favorite worker placement games. Its fun with 2 people along with 4 people. The only hard part is knowing what all the symbols mean, but after the first play through, you will be hooked. I would say with 4 people you will spend hour and a half playing. This game has such great depth, and there are lots of different ways to win. You will want to come back to this game, just so you can try out new strategies. |

Nothing Personal | Not a game to take things, ahem, personally |
This Kickstarter game launched in 2013 with huge online support because of the creators, famous for their board game video blog, Dice Tower. The quality of the game (at least this Kickstarter version) is very impressive. You can tell since the box is very heavy! The phases are clear and the cards and art are easy to understand. The only question we sometimes had was on the order the new crime family positions were taken. With only 5 rounds, it's surprising that it still takes 2 hours to play - just depends on how much diplomacy. "I'll take down this guy if you take down this one? I'll pay you to not take out my gal here" Working together at times to not let anyone take too strong a lead keeps the final score usually close (though my 2nd game I was last with half the points of the winner). |

Agricola | One of my all time favorites! |
Never thought I'd be answering that my favorite board is about farming, but it is! This game never gets old with worker placement and scarce economy creating tension for every turn: what decision should I make now to best take care of my family? It does take a while to learn (~30 minutes), but it's a very worthwhile investment. |

What's It To Ya? | Simple group game - learn about others |
Many like Gift Trap because you learn about others, this is similar and much faster. Depending on the randomness of the draw, it can be easy or hard (ie. flip a coin) to predict what others prefer. I personally prefer Gift Trap, but it can go long compared to this much faster game. |

Trains | Nice, fast blend of area management with deck building |
We played this at Nuke-Con 2013 and were done in less than an hour on our first play. Once you've played one deck-building game, this game play will come naturally to you. The fun addition of a 2-sided board makes this a nice addition. Recommended! |
