Oregon | It's Pioneer Saturdays in November! |
I'm running a couple of pioneer-themed games every other Saturday in November. Why? I can't think of a good reason except that these are a couple of awesome games that I'd love to teach other people. First up is Oregon, a BGG highly-ranked game and one of the highlights of the out-of-print section of the Spielbound library. There's nothing quite like this card-based worker-placement game. |

Shear Panic | It's Sheep Wednesday in November! |
I'm running a couple of sheep-themed games every other Wednesday in November. Why? Because sheep are awesome! First up is Shear Panic, the game of strategic sheep manipulation. This game from Mayfair features some of the most beautiful components you'll ever see in a game and, while certainly family-friendly, also offers satisfying strategic options for any designer board game fan! |

One Night Ultimate Werewolf | Best party game for 5-10 players! |
We have played Ultimate Werewolf for several years - it's the best implementation of the Mafia/Werewolf game mechanic. One Night is the great response to playing werewolf without payer elimination (ie. no one has to leave the room/table) and a round is played within a few minutes. I HIGHLY recommend using the free smartphone app when playing this game and playing around a table where everyone can sit/stand and keep their cards accessible. If you like this game, I also recommend Resistance, Coup, and One Night Werewolf Day Break. |

Trains | A deck builder with a few more ways to score. |
Very much inspired by Dominion this Train themed deck-builder gives you a few more scoring options by adding a board (and routes with the Rising Sun expansion). The base game maps are best with at least 3 players so that there is competition for space. If you have to play it with two leave the board folded in half for a greater challenge. The game is far more enjoyable when you're fighting for territory. |

Steam | Rail-building in Great Britain |
We played the Great Britain map from Map Expansion Pack #2, which is one I hadn't gotten a chance to try out yet. It didn't take for the four players' rails to collide and the competition between delivering goods via steam engine and steam boat was very engaging. In the end, all four players finished within ten points of each other, with Bryce narrowly edging out Warren for a one-point victory thanks an extra link of tracks built. Choo choo! |

Munchkin | Great pickup game, lots of fun |
Five friends and I sat down to play this game with only one of us ever having played a Munchkin game before. Jessica explained the rules to us in about 5 minutes and we jumped right in, no sweat. The game promotes lots of teamwork to defeat monsters together early on, but it quickly turns into backstabbing and bridge burning to try and get ahead of the competition. For example, Chad had an amazing start and made it further than anyone and was extremely powerful, but after some refusal of teamwork and bad draws he dropped to last and there was a tie for first. The game kept us on the edge of our chairs until the very end! I highly recommend this game, especially if you and your friends are looking for something easy to pick up. I had an absolute blast playing this game and we definitely laughed a lot throughout. |
