My Precious Presents | I'm coming! |
I may be running late, depending on how quickly I can leave work, and if enough people show up, don't worry about saving me a place, but I do intend to come to this. |

7 Wonders: Babel | Review |
This is a fun addition to an already fun game. In reality, this is actually two expansions rolled into one and I recommend learning each one individually before playing both at the same time (which you can definitely do and makes for a much more interesting game). The first expansion allows you to build the Tower of Babel which slightly alters the rules of the game (for example making it free to build your wonders, or making everyone pay extra if they're going to play a military card). There's also the added incentive for each section of the tower you build: you get two points if you build one section, five points for two sections, and 10 points for three sections. The second part of the expansion makes it so a random Great Project card is put out in each age. Whenever you play a card that is the same color as the Great Project card, you can choose to pay a little extra gold to get a bonus listed on the card. However, if you don't do this, there's the possibility of you being penalized as well. I'd definitely recommend trying this expansion if you've played the base game enough times. |

In the City: Origins | Review |
This is a fairly fun game that feels similar to Splendor. It's a drafting game where you start off with a character who has a certain amount of influence that you use to obtain more and more powerful creatures form the different tiers (Tiers 0-3 where Tier three has most expensive characters). Each creature has -2 to 5 victory points, and the person who has the most points wins. You can technically play this game with five people, but I would recommend using three since things can get kind of messy with four, and the mechanics really fall apart with five. Additionally, a couple of the leader's special powers seem kind of broken, specifically the one (I forget his name) who allows you two perform each Enlist and Sacrifice bonus twice. All of that being said, this is a pretty fun three player game if you enjoy the drafting type of card games. |

Spielmasons is hosting a cooking themed game design contest! | Cool idea! |
I have a short game called "Potato Sack Race". It's only indirectly food-related. I might bring it. |

Emira | Assemble a Harem! |
The third and final favorite-Bryce game I'm demoing this month is Emira, the game of strategic harem acquisition. Some might think this sort of theme would result in a casual party game. But no! Emira is an elegant assortment of classic Euro mechanics: There are auctions! There are several fun tracks to keep track of! There is set collection! And there is exciting cube-pushing action! Yes! Plus, there's no need to feel embarrassed, awkward, or politically incorrect playing this game. It was designed by a woman so it's all good! |
